The last
day of NAPLAN was an extra special day, as Hilly and Pop were due to arrive
that night. Lexie was keen to cook ‘her dinner’ for them. We had ordered pumpkin
soup to share for lunch at the Whale Station in Albany, and Lexie loved it so
much, she went and asked the cook for the recipe. All completely of her own
accord – she just disappeared and came back with the recipe! She had cooked it
for us the next night, and had ordered some delicious sour dough bread to serve
with it. We were fully expecting her to get the squishy white bread, but she
thought the sour dough would ‘go better’. It sure did! Duncan and I raved so much about her meal that she wanted
to make it again for Mum and Dad. No complaints from us!
We had spent
the afternoon preparing Bertha for guests – swapping the beanbags and little
tables for the mattresses and making the beds. The washing hamper went into the
shower for storage and everyone was told to store their own dry towels on their
beds. The towels now have more chance of getting dry thanks to Dunc’s latest renovations – a washing line under the
awning. I LOVE it!!
Mum and Dad
arrived quite late thanks to the same Perth peak hour, and Lexie had perfectly
timed dinner to sit down and eat right away. We had toyed with the idea of
meeting them at the airport again like in Tassie, but that traffic convinced us
otherwise.
We had a
wonderful night of catching up and I gave the kids a ‘day off’ school on the Friday as a chill out
from NAPLAN and because Hilly and Pop were there to play with. We had a lazy
Friday hanging out. Mum took Lexie shopping for her future birthday, and Dunc
took Dad to get some oil. Angus and I hung out at home and watched a movie
together. It was a lovely low-key kind of day, just spending time with family.
Saturday was altogether different and we wore Mum and Dad out walking ALL around Kings Park. Well not really, since its so enormous you have to drive between parts. But we did walk rather a lot and spent almost the entire day there. We started at the Dinosaur playground and finished in the Rio Tinto Naturescape playground and in between saw the War Memorial, the Giant Boab Tree, climbed the glass bridge, climbed the DNA Tower and squeezed in lunch! Any thoughts of stopping in the city centre were thrown out the window and we all went home to recover.
