And we were
not in Melbourne. Oh the irony... We had a wonderful day at the Bingil Bay Café
with our large group of friends from the caravan park. They named themselves
the “Trailer Park Trash” and along with any local who wasn’t working, we took over the wonderful purple
café in Bingil Bay. The café was running their own version of the Melbourne Cup
and there were plenty of sweeps to be involved in. Lexie even ran her own!
There were
a number of Bingil races run, with wooden horses powered by fishing rods taking
over the street. People bid at auction to win a horse and after watching 2
races run, Dunc just had to give it a go.
We also had
the good old “Fashions on the Field” with a number of people strutting their stuff
on the catwalk. The girls joined in, and if it wasn’t for the fact that first prize was a bottle of champers, I think they
might have won.
Having so
many children from the caravan park (which was a little unexpected for those running
the day - being in QLD, it was not a public holiday, so they expected all kids to be at school) an extra race was added at the end – a children’s race. Sponsored by the wonderful “Trailer Park Trash” and with soft drink prizes all ‘round, every child got to get a go – either at being the strapper
(running along behind the horse and flipping it back on its ‘feet’ if it falls over) or the jockey (in charge of the fishing rod). Lexie
and Meg won the race – woo hoo!
