Servaaanteeees
was an ideal spot to see the famous Pinnacles from. The children had recently
seen a show on ABC3 which was filmed there, so we had some added excitement.
Lexie was a little surly when we were heading off “ANOTHER drive and walk? Really? How booooring…” but was very quick to tell us how worthwhile it was after we went. “That was actually really cool! Thanks for
taking us.”
The Pinnacles are tall rocks that rise from the desert floor. They don’t seem to have a definitive explanation for their existence, but I really like the theory that they are the bases of a forest which was engulfed, decomposed and the cavities filled with limestone sediment. The tree shapes have been worn away over time, leaving only the thicker bases. Some of the pinnacles really DO look like the bottoms of trees.

We were
lucky with the weather. It has been shocking! Sooooo changeable. This is a
perfect illustration of what we have been experiencing:
Raining
WHILE the sun is shining?!? How is that even possible??!
Fortunately
most of the rain doesn’t last for long, and then its sunny
again. Our time walking around The Pinnacles wasn’t rainy at all, but the light wasn’t fabulous for taking breathtaking photos. I think we still got some
lovely shots though!
We all had
a bit of fun people-watching. There was one woman in a large black jacket and
bare legs, who I mistook for an emu from a distance. And Dunc thought for sure
he had spotted Wanda, (Where’s Wally’s girlfriend) for a while there:
We all
loved our time there. There is a big loop to drive around and you can get out
wherever you want, which we did. The whole family enjoyed it so much we got
Dunc to drive around a second time! I said it was just like watching a
beautiful movie, as it was well and truly surround vision.
