Our 3-day
pass to Uluru included entry to Kata Juta and we headed there fairly quickly.
There are 2 main walks there – a short one into a gorge, and the longer Valley of
the Winds hike, which sounded more interesting. Unfortunately we decided rather
last-minute to do the hike, so we had no camelbacks or daypacks or fly nets
with us. Just our hats and water bottles. Which meant Lexie had to cope with
flies, which she HATES, so Whingey came out in a BIG way. So much so, that I
cut our hike short to wallow in the shade with the kids for a bit while Duncan
went further. The hike was quite extreme at times, another reminder we were in
the NT and not in WA. In the end, Dunc really enjoyed himself, I loved the
scenery, Angus thought it was ok and Lexie had a horrible time. We were hoping
things would improve with better preparation…
