From
Bundaberg, we headed to Hervey Bay. We had booked a week in Rainbow Beach where
my Mum and Dad were going to meet us, so we had a few days to kill before then.
We ended up at the most wonderful caravan park. Pialba is right on the shore in
the centre of town. It has one of those fabulous and FREE waterparks right at
its door, and grassed sites that are right on the beach. And it’s a council-run park, so the prices are
incredibly reasonable. And on the 14th of December, they still had
heaps of vacant sites left and were not raising prices until the 20th
– I just couldn’t get it?! Where are all the people?
We had a
wonderful site parked diagonally across two near the rubbish bins. LOL. At
least it had a great view out the windscreen:
There were
plenty of children about, but somehow neither Angus nor Lexie was keen to interact.
The school holidays had started and in Lexie’s words: “They’re not travellers, Mum. They’re holidayers and they don’t even look me in the eye!” Both kids were happy to chill out in the bus. The weather wasn’t spectacular and we took advantage of the
breaks in the rain to get out to the beach or splash zone.
We also
baked some gingerbread and went out to the movies as a family for the first
time in AGES. We saw “Alexander and the Terrible,
Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” which was really quite funny and
thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in the family.
The
highlight of our day was the arrival of the ice-cream van, which cruised by
slowly every day. Once was enough for us, but I think that van does VERY well
over summer!
