We left
Hervey Bay and headed to Rainbow Beach, after confirming that we could come
back if we didn’t like it there. We arrived just
before the rain and storms, and had managed to park up and set up the awning in
time to be told that the police had been past to advise everyone to pack them
away!
We had a
couple of days to settle in and prepare Bertha for Mum and Dad’s arrival. This meant digging out the new
mattresses, getting the kids to pack their toys away and giving everything a
good scrub down. Duncan had made a shade sail side for the awning, and having
the ladder out inspired him to test out the annex. We are starting to wrap our
heads around selling Bertha when we get back, and we realized that we have
never actually used the annex. Duncan was worried that there were parts
missing, so he wanted to set it up to ensure we could sell it truthfully. And
look at that – all the bits ARE there! It is also incredibly obvious that the old owner never used it either – the creases are almost ironed in, and the ‘new vinyl’ smell was overpowering.
Mum and Dad
arrived with many kisses and lots of gifts – most of which went under the
little tree! They also brought a VERY special package for Lexie – her Grade 6
jacket. Her friends had all received theirs in Melbourne only 1.5 hours earlier
so she was beyond excited to have hers as well. Thanks so VERY much for
arranging it Katie – it was an absolute highlight for Lexie and she has already
pulled it out 3 more times to show various Grade 6ers we are running into on
the road. LOL.
It was so
lovely to see my parents for the first time since MAY. A long time between
kisses. We had some lovely chill-out days swimming, baking and hanging out, and
then decided to go for a 4WD through the Great Sandy National Park and onto the
beach. I packed a picnic lunch and we hit the tracks. It was just perfect, with
little parts of sub-tropical rainforest, blinding white beach sand, and nice
easy tracks.
When we hit the beach we drove up to a popular swimming spot for a wander, before racing the incoming tide back to the track to get off that beach. We cruised along the inside shore enjoying all the different coloured sands. It’s easy to understand where “Rainbow Beach” got its name from now.
We finished
our time there by going out for dinner to the sports club, but the main meals
were rather average. My chicken was completely raw and had to be sent back, but
at least Dad was happy with his dessert!
