From one
good friend straight to another – I told you we were socialising! Though they
were all my friends and most of them from my Internet Mothers Group, so poor
Duncan was incredibly patient with us all. We went from Wauchope to The Entrance
just north of Sydney, to see my dear friend Jaki. I was so excited about seeing
her – we are in constant contact, but it had been far too long since we had
been together. Once again there wasn't anywhere particularly Bertha friendly. The Gosford Showgrounds would
have been perfect and just around the corner, but sadly they were resurfacing
the turf and were closed for those 2 weeks! Argh!! In desperation we ended up
at the Morisset Showgrounds, which was sadly a good 30 min drive from Jaki's house. Still significantly closer then
Melbourne though. We also had to pass another weighbridge. We were intrigued to
see what the results would be, what with new batteries and the generator
installed since the last time she had been weighed, let alone all our contents.
Sadly (yet again) we were waved through. Oh well!
The
Morisset Showgrounds were great. You enter by driving THROUGH a shed, which was
a slight concern until we turned a corner and saw how high the clearance was –
phew! There were plenty of buses there, but Bertha was (as usual) the biggest.
Our site
was tucked away under some lovely gums, down near some stock yards. We had to
get a couple of French packpackers in a Whiz-banger to move. Their little tiny
van was in the biggest site and they hadn't even checked in properly – just turned up and parked! Luckily the
caretaker was onto it. Jaki and her kids arrived very soon after we landed.
Lexie had bought
some henna cones at Byron Bay and was becoming quite the tattoo artist. She
kept herself busy decorating Jaki's 3 children and the family with 5 kids who were camping nearby. Jaki
and I just caught up on gossip and hugs.
We had a
wonderful few days driving back and forth between The Entrance and Morisset. We
basically spent the entire time together at one place or the other, with the
kids getting along so well. Lester was home from his FIFO job for some of it so
he and Dunc got to finally meet after listening to stories about each other for
11 years.
It was SUCH
a lovely interlude. We had been on the go for a few days and it was nice to be
able to slow down and chill again, and to be able to do it with friends made it
even better.
