I thought
we were pretty much under control after dealing with the containers, but Dunc
still hadn’t sorted his clothes or packed his
computer up and my wardrobe was still full of stuff I wasn’t taking.
Our final
day was once again marked with wonderful assistance from family and friends.
Mum and Dad and Dunc’s mum spent the entire day helping
sort clothes and tools, Katie helped ferry the entire kitchen from the house to
Bertha, and Dunc’s friend Roo returned to help load
all the tools and equipment that Dunc was taking. Roo and Jaki had popped past
to meet Bertha the night before and been roped into helping load stuff already
– that guy was a sucker for punishment!
The
children had their stuff all sorted by bedtime the night before, but only
having 2 small cupboards-worth will make life easy for them! Dunc and I, on the
other hand, had rather a lot more to sort out.
We spent
the morning loading stuff and I lost the plot when I lost track of time and
thought we had 3 hours less than we really did. The sense of relief I felt when
I realized it was only 1pm and not nearly 4pm was insane! Monica went on a
final fish and chip run to Harry so we could enjoy his cooking one last time
(Harry’s Fish and Chips on Middleborough
Rd, right near Eley Rd – DELICIOUS! Give them a try and say “Hi from Duncan” 9808 8055).
We loaded
Baby Bertha into the trailer and took the opportunity to start the map trails
that the children will be filling in – Angus on Baby Bertha and Lexie on the
back of Little Bertha. I got an exciting text from the Spirit of Tasmania and
started to freak out that we were running out of time.
We ended up leaving Dunc’s mum with a large keg of Port to babysit and my Mum and Dad with rather a lot more ‘stuff’ than anticipated. And cleaning up to do. Our parents are absolutely amazing and support us in soooo many ways –
we LOVE you guys!!
In the end we left almost right on schedule. We
aimed for 4pm and had the neighbours all there to bid us farewell. I think it
was just about 4.15 when we pulled out and Dunc didn’t grind a single gear on his way past the Driver
Buslines departure committee! Yay!
